Article 4
Academic Year

  1. The academic year begins on 1st September and ends on 31st August of the following calendar year. It is divided into winter and summer terms, and the period of summer vacations. The beginning of teaching is set by the Dean and given by the schedule of the academic year.
  2. It is required that the teaching period is covered by not less than 12 weeks and is followed by a seven-week examination period in the winter term, and a eight-week examination period in the summer term.
  3. During summer vacations the specialized practice, taking 4 full weeks and given by the curriculum, is carried out. It is required that the students free time during summer vacations is by no means reduced in consequence of the specialized practice.
  4. The basic forms of teaching are as follows: lectures, practical lessons, seminars, clerkships, specialized practice, and consultations.
  5. Lectures for students are delivered by Professors and Associate Professors. Assistant Professors appointed by the Head of the respective institute or department, are also allowed to deliver lectures, as well as prominent specialists from hospitals and research workplaces after being given assent to this activity by the Faculty Dean.
  6. Practical lessons and seminars are conducted by Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors, as well as by specialists from the University hospital and research workplaces after being previously given assent to these activities by the Faculty Dean.
  7. It is required that the students not taking part in practical lessons and seminars, give their apology to the teacher who decides on the form and extent of adequate compensation. During one semester the student may compensate the classes he/she has been excused for, in the extent of three weeks at most. In some justified cases the Head of the Department may give his permit to compensate a greater number of practical lessons.
  8. The specialized practice is carried out in health care institutions, outpatient departments, in the laboratory and diagnostic workplaces. The students receive a certificate on passing their specialized practice provided by the doctor under the direction of whom the specialized practice has been performed.
  9. The student carrying out his/her specialized practice abroad, is required to submit the certificate on taking the practice verified by the Head of a foreign workplace. It is also required that this certificate includes the length and content of the practice taken, and is provided in one of the world languages. On the basis of this certificate the Head of the respective institute or department, or his/her deputy, entitles one of the teachers to give a credit for the student in connection with his/her practical activities passed.
  10. It is required that the heads of institutes and departments work out the subject schedule of lectures, practical lessons and seminars for both terms by the beginning of teaching at the latest, and send this document to the Faculty Study Office. They are also required to provide necessary information for the staff of individual departments. The subject schedule has to include:
    1. title of a lecture and the lecturers name
    2. schedule and form of study check at practical lessons and seminars
    3. consultation activities of teachers
    4. requirements for giving credits
    5. It is required to specify additional changes in the syllabus as well as in the subject schedule.
  11. In every study year the students elect two representatives who will attend to the smooth transfer of information from the Faculty Administration, pre-clinical institutes and clinical departments, as well as from the Faculty Study Office to the students, and vice versa from the students to the Faculty Administration, pre-clinical institutes and clinical departments.
The students are required to give the two names of their representatives by the first week of teaching in the given academic year at the latest.
  12. The students are required to undergo:
    1.  medical examination on entering the 1st year of study

    3. regular medical examination in the 3rd year
    4. final medical examination when leaving the Faculty
    5. Participation in all the above examinations and vaccinations is registered in the book of study records. No participation in these examinations will be considered as breaching the study regulations.
  13. At the beginning of the study term the teachers are required to provide necessary instructions as far as protection and safety of work and necessary measures in case of fire are concerned.
This instructive meeting is repeated in the cases when the subject is delivered for two or more terms. The record about the instructions given, together with the signatures of students, is kept in the secretariat of the institute or clinical department for the period of 6 years.
